What is Central Vacuum?

A Central Vacuum System is an advanced cleaning solution that is permanently installed in a home or building, providing a more practical, efficient and silent way to vacuum dust and dirt. The system is made up of three main elements: the Vacuum Central, the pipe network and the inlet valves strategically distributed throughout the home.

The Vacuum Central is the heart of the system, and is normally located in a remote area, such as a garage, basement or service area. This component contains a powerful motor that generates the suction necessary to suck dust and dirt through the pipe network. Its remote location ensures that vacuum noise does not interfere with inhabited areas, providing much quieter operation than conventional vacuum cleaners.

The pipe network is installed inside the walls of the house, connecting the vacuum central to the various inlets throughout the house. These pipes transport the vacuumed dust, dirt and waste to the central vacuum, where they are collected in a large capacity tank or bag, reducing the frequency with which it needs to be emptied.

The Inlet Valves are small discreet inlets, generally installed on the walls or baseboards, where the vacuum system hose connects. These outlets are strategically positioned so that, when using the hose, it is possible to reach all areas of the house with ease. By connecting the hose to one of these inlets and turning it on, the system starts working, and the dirt is sucked directly into the central unit, without the need to transport the vacuum cleaner between rooms.

In addition to being a highly efficient solution, the central vacuum system offers several advantages over traditional vacuum cleaners. Improves indoor air quality as dust and allergens are removed directly from the environment and sent to the central unit, rather than being recirculated through the air. Additionally, the lightweight, flexible hose replaces the need to carry heavy vacuum cleaners from room to room, making the cleaning process easier, especially in large or multi-story areas.

This system can also be complemented with innovative accessories, such as Central Kitchen Collector installed in the kitchen or bathroom, which allow debris to be swept directly into the system without using a hose. Adaptable to new construction projects or renovations, the Central Vacuum System offers a modern and effective way of keeping spaces clean, with less effort and greater convenience.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

A central vacuum system is a cleaning system that is permanently installed in a house or building. It consists of a central suction unit, usually located in a utility area or garage, and a network of pipes running along the walls, connected to suction sockets distributed throughout the different rooms of the house.

• Higher suction power: Central vacuum systems offer higher suction power, providing more effective cleaning.
• Quiet: As the central unit is located away from leisure areas, noise during use is significantly reduced.
• Improved air quality: By removing dust and allergens from the internal environment and expelling them outside, they contribute to a healthier environment.
• Convenience and ease of use: Strategically installed suction points facilitate quick and efficient cleaning, without the need to carry a heavy hoover.

A central vacuum system is installed in two stages. In the first phase, during the construction or renovation of the house, the pipework is installed in the walls and the exhaust point to the outside. In the second phase, after the building work, the suction outlets and the central unit are installed.

Yes, it is possible to install a central vacuum system in an existing house, although it can be more challenging than in a new build. Installation in existing homes can involve running pipework through attics, basements or behind walls and skirting boards.

Maintenance of a central vacuum system is minimal. It usually includes replacing or cleaning the filters in the central unit, periodically checking the pipes and suction outlets, and cleaning the dust collection container when necessary.

Yes, central vacuum systems are generally more efficient than portable hoovers. They provide more effective cleaning in less time, which can result in lower energy consumption in the long term.

The cost of a central vacuum system can vary significantly depending on the size of the house, the number of suction outlets, and the complexity of the installation. Although the initial cost may be higher than that of a traditional hoover, the durability and efficiency of the system can compensate for this initial investment.

Yes, central vacuum systems are versatile and can be used on different types of floors, including carpets, wood, tiles and laminates. There are different accessories available to optimise the cleaning of each type of surface.
